Duncan Maskell is head of department and Marks and Spencer Professor of Farm Animal Health, Food Science and Food Safety at the University of Cambridge. He enjoys an enviable international reputation as a molecular microbiologist and directs the UK’s leading centre concentrating on bacterial infections in animals and on veterinary medicine. He is distinguished for his extensive work on salmonella. His model for identifying new targets for antimicrobial therapy is now universally recognised as a vital unmet medical need. He has played a key role in National and International organisations concerned with control and prevention of food borne pathogens.
