Deborah Lawlor is Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Bristol. She has made major contributions to understanding the early life origins of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Her recent work on live birth outcomes following in vitro fertilization and the effect of transferring one or more embryos are the main evidence base for the economic evaluation that underpins national guidelines, and she has developed a prediction model which is available as an on-line calculator for couples to estimate the likelihood of success. She also leads a regularly updated systematic review of the effect of exercise in treating depression.
