Dr John Teasdale has a special scientific appointment at the MRC Applied Psychology Unit at Cambridge and is an honorary clinical psychologist with the Cambridge Health Authority. He is amongst the foremost international figures in research on cognition and emotion. He demonstrated experimentally that momentary fluctuations in mood systematically influence the type of information about the self that is retrieved from memory. His research is characterised by a compelling mixture of attention to detail, innovative designs, original thinking and clear clinical relevance. In the clinical context, he conducted one of the first trials that established the effectiveness of cognitive therapy as a treatment for depression.
