Fiona Gilbert, Head of the Department of Radiology at the University of Cambridge, is an outstanding academic radiologist. She is successfully applying artificial intelligence to breast imaging having previously carried out ground-breaking research on Computer Aided Detection. She set up Academic Radiology at the University of Aberdeen and later combined this with Medical Physics to form the Aberdeen Biomedical Imaging Centre, an approach that was subsequently emulated elsewhere. As chair of the Cambridge Health Imaging Committee, she is tireless in maximising synergy between research groups and across disciplines and developing strategic international academic and industrial partnerships.
