James Briscoe, a Senior Group Leader at The Francis Crick Institute, is a leading developmental biologist whose studies of fundamental mechanisms of neural stem cell differentiation have underpinned the development of novel therapeutic strategies. His work combines scholarly knowledge of embryology with interdisciplinary approaches that incorporate molecular and cellular biology, mathematical modelling and systems biology. Dr Briscoe has continued to apply new technology and interdisciplinary approaches to long-standing problems in developmental biology. By combining systematic genomic studies with data driven theoretical approaches, his recent work is providing new mechanistic understanding and revealing the underlying logic of transcriptional networks.
