Dr Duncan Campbell is Head of the MRC Human Genome Mapping Project Resource Centre at Hinxton Cambridge. He has devoted his career to the molecular analysis of the gene structure and function of the major histocompatibility complex class III region and is the world authority on this medically important chromosome region. Duncan Campbell produced the first molecular map of this region of the MHC. He has identified most of the genes in the class III region and characterised in detail the function of several of the gene products.
