Dr Clive Dickson is Principal Scientist and Head of the Viral Carcinogenesis Laboratory at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund Laboratories at Lincoln’s Inn Fields. He is distinguished for his pioneering work on mouse mammary tumour virus, which led to the discovery of the Int2 proto-oncogene in collaboration with Dr Gordon Peters, who is also being admitted to Fellowship of the Academy today, in absentia. This work helped to establish insertional mutagenesis as a common mechanism by which Mouse Mammary Tumour Virus, a non-acutely transforming retrovirus, causes breast cancer in mice.
