David Horn, Professor of Parasite Molecular Biology at the University of Dundee, leads the field in the development of approaches to unravel the immune evasion and drug resistance mechanisms of African trypanosome parasites, responsible for disease and hardship for millions in sub-Saharan Africa. He has uncovered key regulators of the control system that ensures only one antigen type is expressed by each parasite, systematically unravelling a complex regulatory process for immune evasion that has been the subject of intense international effort. Professor Horn is an exceptional researcher, leader and mentor who is making substantial real-world contributions to the discovery of new therapies for devastating parasites and how resistance emerges.
