Constantin Coussios, Director of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Oxford, has achieved major academic, commercial and clinical impact through the invention, development and successful translation of several interventional and therapeutic medical devices across the disciplines of abdominal transplantation, oncology and orthopaedics. He led the engineering development of the world’s first normothermic liver device for improved organ preservation and utilization prior to transplantation. He has expanded the UK’s capabilities across several biomedical technology fields, including therapeutic ultrasound, drug delivery, neurotechnology, biomaterials and youth sports medicine and technology. His contributions have altered the paradigm for accelerated development and adoption of novel medical technologies from bench to bedside.
