Clare Bambra, Professor of Public Health at Newcastle University, is a leader in public health and, specifically, in research and scholarship on health inequalities. Her numerous productive research programmes have been responsible for nurturing a whole new corps of researchers in these areas. She combines empirical analyses with important theoretical contributions and brings social and political insights to bear on questions of health inequalities. Professor Abel brings theory down to earth with her leadership in analysing the North-South Health divide in England, with practical implications for policy. She has been very much involved in analysing the inequalities dimension of the Covid pandemic and was invited to prepare evidence on inequalities for the Covid Inquiry.
