Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Dundee, Angus Lamond is an outstanding molecular cell biologist who has made major contributions to our present understanding of the functional organisation of the cell nucleus and to mechanisms of gene expression. He has developed many innovative methods, spanning the fields of chemistry, microscopy, proteomics, and computing, to reveal new insights into the components of molecular machines and their associated regulatory mechanisms. He has pioneered new approaches, combining quantitative proteomics and novel computational strategies for the system-wide analysis of cellular responses, thereby establishing a world leadership position in the biological analysis of proteomics ‘Big Data’, which has major implications for the future of cell biology and biomedical research.
