Alison Grant, Professor of International Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, has played a lead role in creating the evidence base for TB prevention in HIV-prevalent settings. While based in Cote d’Ivoire, she played a central role in the first trial showing that cotrimoxazole reduced mortality among HIV-positive people in the global South. She developed a research programme with South African colleagues to address the HIV-driven TB epidemic among gold miners, while also designing an HIV care programme which was implemented by mining companies. Professor Grant has played leading roles in promoting equity, diversity and inclusion in research and is an enthusiastic and committed mentor.
