Professor Alan Lucas is MRC Clinical Research Professor and Head of the Childhood Nutrition Centre at the Institute of Child Health, London. He has conducted pioneering studies that have shown that nutrition in premature babies has a profound impact not only in the short term but also in their long-term health and neuro-development. His formal experimental interventional studies on nutritional programming of human infants have sparked an entire new generation of research into the early origins of adult disease.
