Cross-sector experience awards

Our cross-sector experience awards provide up to £100,000 to support individuals to work in a different sector for three to twelve months.

Who can apply
  • People at any career stage, except undergraduate, whose work is linked to improving human health.
  • People employed on a permanent or fixed-term contract that runs beyond the end of the proposed grant, and who can dedicate at least 50% of working time to the grant.

Networking grants

Our networking grants provide up to £25,000 in one year to support collaborations and networking across disciplines between UK-based and international researchers. 

Key information for grant applicants about our networking grants
Who can apply
  • Researchers in natural sciences, physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer science, engineering, agricultural, biological and medical research, social science, humanities, scientific aspects of archaeology, geography, experimental psychology, and clinical or patient-oriented research.
  • Applications must be made jointly by a researcher in an eligible country outside the UK and a UK-based researcher.

Professorships

Our professorships offer up to £500,000 of research funding to support biomedical science and healthcare researchers who are new to the UK in the early years of a full professorship.

Springboard for research careers 

Our Springboard scheme provides up to £125,000 over two years to support biomedical scientists at the start of their first independent post with research and professional development.

  • Biomedical scientists in the first five years of their first independent salaried academic post.
  • The post must involve research, be at group-leader level and line managed.

Starter grants for clinical lecturers

Our starter grants provide up to £40,000 of research funding over one to two years to support clinical lecturers to secure longer-term fellowships and funding.

Who can applyResearch-active clinical lecturers in human, dental or veterinary medicine who hold a clinical contract at a UK institution.

The Foulkes Foundation Academy of Medical Sciences Medal

We award the Foulkes Foundation Academy of Medical Sciences Medal every two years to a biomedical or health researcher for outstanding achievements early in their career.

Key information about the Foulkes Foundation Medal
Who can apply
  • Post-doctoral researchers in a field relevant to biomedical and health who have achieved their PhD in approximately the past 10 years.
  • Researchers must also be UK-based or previously UK-based. 
Funding amount
  • £1,500 cash prize
  • Opportunity to present research at an Academy of Medical Sciences event.
