We support researchers
We back the people shaping the future of medical science: we have invested more than £100 million in research and our career development programmes have supported 2,700+ participants across the UK.
The researchers we support through our grants and programmes go on to secure significant further funding and promotions. This strengthens the UK research workforce and accelerates new insights and advances in health that can improve patient outcomes.
The Springboard award enabled me to establish our dengue research in the UK and build momentum to secure further research funding in this area.
Dr Laura Rivino

We shape policy and systems
We provide independent evidence and advice that informs policy, regulation and public health decision-making.
Our work has contributed to:
- the development of the UK clinical research environment
- national conversations on child health and prevention
- pandemic preparedness
- the future sustainability of UK health research
- the shape of health research regulation and governance.
Working at the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe offers me an incredible opportunity to build cross-sectoral connections between academia and the public sector that will help integrate scientific evidence into health policies and ensure accessible, equitable and person-centred palliative care services.
Dr Anna Peeler
This is a golden age of medical breakthroughs and my deepest gratitude goes to the many scientists whose translational work I’ve had the privilege to support.
We bring people together
By working in the space between research and decision-making, we bring people, evidence and action together — so researchers can advance ideas, policymakers can make better decisions, and patients and communities benefit from improved health.
Through our Fellowship, Forum and our cross-sector networks, we bring the health research ecosystem together to address complex challenges collaboratively.
Our partnerships and regional hubs galvanise collaboration across all four nations of the UK and internationally – helping people, ideas and expertise to connect and translate more effectively into action.
