Professor Andrew Prendergast FMedSci

Andrew Prendergast is Professor of Paediatric Infection and Immunology at Queen Mary University of London. He has impacted global child health through large-scale trials of public health strategies and laboratory studies unlocking the pathogenesis of HIV and malnutrition. His trials have shown benefits of antimicrobial prophylaxis in sub-Saharan Africa, and that an antimicrobial package reduced mortality by 27% in advanced HIV. His commitment to Zimbabwe and local researchers, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, has developed the next generation, focussed on exploiting basic science techniques combined with large-scale pragmatic public health interventions to elucidate mechanism as well as create impact.
