Professor Liam Heaney FMedSci
Liam Heaney, Professor of Respiratory Medicine at Queen’s University Belfast, has delivered sustained contributions to medical sciences and provided scientific leadership, particularly in severe asthma. He has highlighted both socioeconomic disparities in asthma mortality and health care utilization, as well as differences in severe asthma clinical care in UK minority ethnic groups, informing initiatives to attempt to address these inequalities.
A further priority is tackling climate change where he has generated substantial data defining the key components of the large carbon footprint from poorly controlled asthma. This has identified targets which will deliver meaningful change to curb emissions and reduce waste in this clinical area in line with the NHS commitment to delivering high quality, low carbon respiratory care.
