Petra Meier is Professor of Public Health at the University of Glasgow and is an internationally recognised leader in public health whose work has transformed how medical sciences address the structural determinants of health. Trained across psychology, epidemiology and health economics, her work is at the forefront of integrating epidemiology, systems science and computational modelling to estimate the effects of fiscal, social and environmental policies on health outcomes and inequalities at population scale. Her landmark contribution, the Sheffield Alcohol Policy Model, set a new international standard for evaluating prevention policies by linking consumption, morbidity, mortality and economic outcomes. This evidence underpinned Minimum Unit Pricing in Scotland, Wales and Ireland, and shaped debates from Canada to South Africa.
