Jeffrey Pollard is the Director of the University of Edinburgh/MRC Centre for Reproductive Health. His world-leading research concerns mechanisms of action of sex steroid hormones in control of cell proliferation and on the tumour microenvironment particularly the modulation of cancer progression and metastasis by macrophages. Professor Pollard established that macrophages play important developmental roles in many tissues including the mammary gland, bone and brain and his pioneering work has made the tumour microenvironment an area of intense investigation and has led to novel therapeutic approaches.
