Through our professorships we provide funding, careers support and access to our professional networks to help attract and retain emerging talent from around the world to the UK. This is one of the ways we are working to make the UK the best place in the world to have a career in medical sciences.
Summary
Our professorships offer up to £500,000 of research funding to support biomedical and healthcare researchers who are new to the UK during the early years of a full professorship.
Who can apply
- biomedical sciences or healthcare researchers who will soon take up a full professorship at a higher education institution in the UK
- biomedical sciences or healthcare researchers who have started a full professorship in the UK in approximately the last three years AND who moved to the UK within approximately 12 months of taking up that position
- you must be working on an open-ended contract at your higher education institution
- your higher education institution must provide evidence that you will be offered a supportive environment.

The selection panel will review applications and recommend candidates to invite to an online interview. If you are invited to interview, you will need to deliver a brief presentation on:
- the new science your professorship will enable
- the added value of an award to your research career
- how you envisage being an ambassador for the Academy.

Further information
Financial support is provided in the first three years of the award. We will provide payments of up to £225,000 in Year One, up to £175,000 in Year Two and up to £100,000 in Year Three.
You may use the funds to support your research during the early years of your professorship, for example, to cover research assistance, research costs or equipment. You may not use funds to contribute to the cost of your salary or personal expenditure.
For the full duration of the professorship, grant holders will have access to careers support, and our professional networks across academia, industry and healthcare.
