Martin Tobin is Professor of Genetic Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Leicester. His research has defined the genetic variants associated with lung function and COPD, showing for the first time their relevance in drug repositioning and disease prediction. He established the first genetic study in UK Biobank; the resulting genetic data have since led to many novel discoveries. His national and international television appearances and outreach have promoted public understanding of risk and smoking cessation. Such understanding is a key component of strategies to reduce smoking-related diseases, alongside other approaches such as improving smoking cessation, a focus of his current research supported by CRUK.
