Professor Vittal Katikireddi FRSE FMedSci
Vittal Katikireddi is Professor of Public Health and Health Inequalities at the University of Glasgow. He has made an outstanding contribution to public health research, focusing on developing the evidence to improve population health and reduce health inequalities through government public policy. His work on minimum unit pricing of alcohol demonstrated that not only was the policy effective, but potentially adverse impacts (e.g. use of illegal drugs and alcohol smuggling) did not occur – findings currently informing the Scottish Parliament’s sunset clause decision-making. His work informed COVID-19 decision-making throughout the pandemic and he is on the international advisory board for The Lancet Public Health, the top-ranked public health journal.
