Tony Ng brings a rich spectrum of knowledge and capabilities with clinical experience in treating AIDS patients and fundamental immunology skills. He is also a pioneer of molecular imaging in cancer. He was the first person to use antibody based FRET approaches in tumour cells and tissues to monitor protein states addressing robustly the problem of protein modifications and protein complexes. He has developed these approaches to a fine art, establishing with others a quantitative and rigorous platform for cell and tumour analysis. Tony has married his imaging skills to the development of a Comprehensive Cancer Imaging Centre bringing together not only multi-disciplinary teams but also two substantial organisations, KCL and UCL. The “molecules to man” vision that Tony espouses as the strap line of this Centre and the linkage of imaging to genomics are inspirational, as is his leadership of this enterprise.
