Sir Thomas McKillop is Chief Executive of AstraZeneca. He has had an outstanding career at every stage. He graduated in chemistry, studied carbonium ion rearrangements in sesquiterpenes for his Ph.D., and won a Royal Society Scholarship for post-doctoral research in wave mechanics in Paris, before embarking upon his stellar career in industry at the I.C.I. Corporate Laboratory in 1969. In his leadership positions in research and development in the pharmaceutical industry he has been closely involved in the successful production of eleven drugs against a wide range of diseases. He has made outstanding contributions to biomedical sciences through his leadership in the pharmaceutical industry.
