Dr. Stephen West FRS FMedSci
Senior Group Leader
Francis Crick Institute
Elected Fellow 2000
Professor Stephen West is Principal Scientist at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund at the Clare Hall Laboratories. He is distinguished for his work on the molecular mechanisms of genetic recombination and DNA repair. In the earlier part of his career he developed model systems for recombination using bacterial proteins. Recently, Stephen West has led the field in studies of human recombination repair proteins. His work is elegant and precise and his contributions to the molecular mechanisms of recombination are unequalled.
