Simon Gilbody, Professor of Psychological Medicine and Psychiatric Epidemiology at the University of York, addresses some of the greatest challenges to health, and has made significant advances in understanding the psychosocial causes of mental illness and how to intervene at the population level.
He is one of the foremost trialists in mental health and has made significant contributions to the evidential basis of NHS care. He has delivered a programme of the largest ever trials undertaken to establish ‘what works’ for depression in primary care.
The research group he has founded has become an impactful presence in the mental health research landscape, in particular his work has been transformative to the health knowledge economy of the North of England.
