Professor Shiranee Sriskandan FMedSci
Shiranee Sriskandan, Professor of Infectious Diseases at Imperial College London, is a world-leading expert on Group A Streptococcal infection. Her work has informed global understanding of this major pathogen’s interaction with populations and individuals. Her work on outbreaks has informed national and international guidelines on streptococcal infections in hospitals and community.
She has shown remarkable clinical and research leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, directing pathogenesis and biomarker research on over 1000 patients recruited to biobanking studies, leading to the first identification of an antiviral metabolite in human serum. Her studies of SARS-CoV2 transmission demonstrate a propensity for children to transmit in the home compared with school, in stark contrast to streptococcal infection.
