Seth Grant is Professor of Molecular Neuroscience at the University of Edinburgh and has made major contributions to the biology of postsynaptic terminals in the brain, repeatedly translating this knowledge to human pathogenesis. In his own laboratory he has characterized over 50 cognitive disease-relevant gene mutations in mice, following up with human genetic studies that showed the same mutations caused human cognitive disabilities. He has identified over 130 brain diseases caused by mutations in genes encoding the postsynaptic proteome and has also contributed to the molecular evolution of the brain and behaviour. He has also shown strong commitment to increasing public understanding of science.
