Sejal Saglani is Professor of Paediatric Respiratory Medicine at Imperial College London. She is a leading paediatric respiratory academic in severe asthma, which is the most common cause of acute hospitalisations in children in the UK. She is unique globally in developing and undertaking a fully translational research programme using precious lower airway samples from children coupled with her neonatal mouse model to probe mechanisms, and extension into clinical trials.
She has used cutting-edge techniques to demonstrate the heterogeneity of childhood severe asthma and the importance of personalised medicine with early, targeted interventions with novel therapeutics to prevent decline in lung function and reduce disease burden.
