management of patients who sustain injury to branches of the trigeminal nerve
Professor Peter Robinson is Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the School of Clinical Dentistry, University of Sheffield. His early research defined physiological changes that occurred following trigeminal nerve injury, elucidated their mechanisms and helped to explain some of the sensory abnormalities reported by patients. The lingual nerve is sometimes injured during the surgical removal of impacted third molar teeth and may require repair. Peter Robinson has evaluated the use of a range of different methods of lingual nerve repair in order to develop an effective protocol. His most recent work concerns the aetiology and management of patients with injury-induced sensory disturbances. Peter Robinson’s contributions are playing an important role in the treatment of distressing facial symptoms, some of which are caused by iatrogenic injury.
