Professor Peter Parker is Principal Scientist and Head of the Protein Phosphorylation Laboratory at the ICRF Laboratories at Lincoln’s Inn Fields. He has made major contributions to our understanding of lipid dependent signal transduction systems in mammalian cells, and their significance in disease. He has provided the first molecular characterisations of phospholipase C and of other members of the protein kinase C family and his biochamical studies have given us major insights into the regulation of these enzymes. He has established that PKC is a target for the immunosuppressant drug rapamycin and demonstrated that PKCa protein controls integrin-dependent migration and metastatic potential in breast tumour cells.
