Professor Peter Hutchinson FMedSci
Professor of Neurosurgery
University of Cambridge
Elected Fellow 2018
Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Cambridge, Professor Hutchinson is distinguished for his world leading contributions across the translational pathway to advancing the evidence-based care of patients after traumatic brain injury. Progress has come from defining initial severity, detecting and preventing avoidable secondary insults at the roadside onwards and neurointensive care. |In applied clinical research, his invention of the 3-channel cranial access device has made Professor Hutchinson an international leader in using intracerebral microdialysis to clarify the effect of TBI on brain cytokines and energy metabolism. He also now leads the new NIHR Global Health Research Group on Neurotrauma.
