Dr. Pamela Rabbitts FMedSci
Pamela Rabbitts is Professor of Experimental Respiratory Research at the Leeds Institute of Molecular Medicine, University of Leeds. Her career began with a landmark development in molecular biology, the extension of the Sanger dideoxy sequencing method to direct RNA sequencing. This led to the sequence determination of the mouse kappa light chain. She was instrumental in other major technical advances, creating the first mouse individual chromosome paints and developing mouse models of chromosomal deletions and translocations.More recently she has moved to the interface between molecular biology and clinical research, where she is pioneering the development of molecular genetic approaches to the detection of precancerous lesions. This work on lung cancer spans basic and clinical research and involves a model collaboration with clinicians and pathologists. She has established a unique sample repository from patients at high risk of lung cancer, with known clinical outcomes, which is helping to define the molecular pathology of lung cancer and should lead to improvements in diagnosis and treatment.
