Mina Ryten, Van Geest Prof of Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge, is a global leader in brain transcriptomics and its application to the understanding of rare and common neurological disorders. She has excelled in major areas: The human brain transcriptome and its regulation, where she was amongst the first to study the genetic regulation of gene expression and splicing across the human brain and across the sexes, The use of brain transcriptomics to improve the understanding of neurogenetic disorders, particularly for hereditary ataxias and Parkinson’s disease, and The development of user-friendly resources to explore human brain transcriptomic data, with her group responsible for the development of over 10 web applications and software tools for the exploration and visualisation of the human brain transcriptome.
