Professor Mike Hanna FMedSci
Michael Hanna is an internationally recognized academic neurologist with expertise in neuromuscular diseases, especially channelopathies, mitochondrial diseases and degenerative myopathies. He demonstrated exceptional, visionary science leadership in establishing the MRC Centre for Translational Research in Neuromuscular Disease at UCL. This Centre has transformed the UK landscape by establishing national platforms for experimental medicine including stratified patient cohorts, a human muscle biobank and new MRI biomarkers that have been adopted internationally. He recently set up an International Centre for Genomic Medicine in Neuromuscular Diseases that includes an innovative lower and middle income country (LMIC) fellowship programme and genetic research across five continents.
