Michael Lenardo is Chief of Molecular Development of the Immune System Section at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in the USA. He is a leading American Immunologist who has made an important contribution to UK medical science through his creation in 2000 of the NIH Oxford and Cambridge Scholars Program. This charity-supported program has resulted in over 220 graduates conducting research in the UK. His research has led to the discovery of various novel genetic mechanisms of immunological diseases, including the first genetic disease of apoptosis due to mutations in CD95 and other apoptosis genes.
