Professor Martin Rosser is Professor of Clinical Neurology at the Institute of Neurology, University College London. He has been a leading figure in the field of dementia research for over twenty years. His work in identifying and characterising a large collection of familial cases of Alzheimer’s disease was central to the discovery of mutations in the amyloid precursor protein gene, in collaborative studies with John Hardy and others. This was a landmark event in the understanding of the dementias. He has developed methods using MRI to accurately follow the progression of cerebral atrophy by co-registration of serially acquired volume images. He has used these methods to study the outset of disease in at-risk individuals. His methods are now being widely applied for monitoring disease progression in the dementias and other brain diseases. He will show us some of his findings shortly.
