Elected Fellow 2000
Professor Martin McKee is Professor of European Public Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. He co-directs the European Centre on Health of Societies in Transition whose objects are to study and to understand the changing health of communities in Central and Eastern Europe. The countries of this region have many common problems, most notably a catastrophic decline in health status. His concern that these communities should learn from each other’s experiences has led to his success in assembling networks of leading researchers in the region. Martin McKee has undertaken a major study that has provided new perspectives on the current Russian mortality crisis.
