Mark Nelson is University Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Vermont. His work has brought the biomedical community to the precipice of a fundamental change in the way we approach microvascular disorders. For thirty years, he has been indisputably the world’s leading small artery physiologist – identifying almost all of the principal calcium signals and ion channels which contribute to the maintenance of vascular tone.
His impact extends through international collaborations. He co-directed a Transatlantic Network of Excellence on cerebral small vessel disease and led major EU Horizon 2020 and Leducq Foundation grants, uniting scientists across Europe and North America.
