Mark Sculpher is Professor and Head of Department at the University of York. He has been a leader in academic health economics for over 35 years and has been prominent in developing the tools of economic evaluation of medical, public health and policy interventions and applying them to generate the evidence necessary for better decision-making. He has been pivotal in defining appropriate appraisal methods for NICE, and has advised similar organisations internationally, including the push for cost-effectiveness evidence in US healthcare.
He has collaborated widely with clinical trialists to ensure economic data are collected and appropriately analysed. Pioneering the integration of economics into major trials such as STAMPEDE has influenced guidelines and funding decisions internationally.
