Manu Shankar-Hari is Chair of Critical Care Medicine and Director of the Centre for Critical Illness Research at the University of Edinburgh. His research has advanced knowledge on immunobiology of sepsis, COVID-19 and critical illness and has generated disease definitions and changed clinical practice. His research has saved thousands of lives globally, saved NHS and DHSC resources, has influenced practice and policy nationally and internationally, and the evidence he has generated has improved outcomes from critical illness He is also a consistent advocate for patient and public involvement, embedding survivors and families as partners in research design and governance.
