Professor Keith Caldecott FRS FMedSci

Keith Caldecott is Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Sussex. He is recognised for identifying novel components of reactions that repair DNA strand breaks in humans where his discoveries have identified new factors in DNA repair and have established new paradigms in the DNA damage response. He is also recognised for highlighting the link between hereditary neurodegenerative disease and defects in the repair of DNA single-strand breaks. The latter may provide insight into the underlying neurological pathology of a number of rare genetic diseases, and implicates single-strand breaks as possible etiological factors in normal human ageing.
