Professor Julia Goodfellow is Professor of Biomolecular Science and Vice-Master of Birkbeck College, University of London. The increasing availability of gene sequences emphasises the importance to biomedicine of predicting, modelling and understanding protein structure. Julia Goodfellow’s major research contributions have contributed to our understanding of the interactions of macromolecules with their environment, especially with solvent molecules which are essential for stability. Outside her own science Julia Goodfellow has played a leading role in bringing together the UK biological and biophysical research communities and is widely respected for the range and depth of her scientific knowledge and for her ability to see her own work in relation to functional biology and clinical issues.
