Dr Jonathan Reeve is a member of the MRC external scientific staff at the Institute of Public Health at the University of Cambridge. He is a major figure in the study of human osteoporosis. His principle contributions have been in the epidemiology of spinal fractures. He has shown in a very large European study, that forty percent of women between the ages of fifty and eighty years develop spinal fractures, and twenty-three percent of men. He has localised the principle areas of trabecular bone loss that cause osteoporosis and identified the mechanical factors that lead to fracture resulting from this pathology
