Jonathan Mant is Professor of Primary Care Research at the University of Cambridge. As a public health physician who has conducted his research in the setting of primary care, he has filled an important gap in medical science by focussing his efforts on establishing an evidence base in cardiovascular science that is relevant to the population to whom it is applied. This is illustrated by his work on stroke prevention and on diagnosis of heart failure and chest pain. He has been at the forefront of stroke research in primary care in the UK, playing a major role in research implementation, having chaired seven NICE guideline committees.
