Professor Jonathan Ashmore is the Bernard Katz Professor of Biophysics at University College London. He has made seminal contributions to our basic understanding of hearing mechanisms. In particular his work using a combination of biophysical, molecular and electrophysiological techniques has uncovered the nature of the novel electromechanical ‘motor’ that exists in the organ of Corti of the mammalian cochlea.
