Professor John Wallwork CBE FMedSci
Mr John Wallwork is Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Director of Transplant Service at Papworth Hospital NHS Trust. Over the last two decades he has led the Cardiothoracic Transplant Programme at Papworth Hospital and gained an international reputation for his achievements in clinical transplantation. He pioneered the introduction of heart-lung transplantation in the UK and has been at the forefront of many other developments in the field of transplantation. His major research interests have been in the field of xenotransplantation and with Dr David White at the Department of Surgery at Cambridge University he was involved in developing transgenic pigs bearing human decay accelerating factor as a strategy for overcoming hyperacute xenograft rejection.
