Professor Jeremy Henley FMedSci
Jeremy Henley is a molecular neuroscientist of international renown. His overall research goal is to better understand key aspects of synaptic structure and function in health and disease. He uses molecular, biochemical and microscopy approaches to investigate protein interactions and posttranslational modifications that underlie the trafficking, localisation and degradation of synaptic proteins. He has elucidated some of the core mechanisms by which neurotransmitter receptors are targeted to, retained at and removed from synapses under normal, stimulated and pathological conditions. Henley’s work on AMPAR trafficking represents an experimental and conceptual advance that has provided new insight into the processes that regulate AMPARs, synaptic responsiveness and network activity. His findings have stimulated research that has the potential to identify new strategies and targets for therapeutic intervention.
