Ian Pavord is the Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Oxford. He has developed and applied new methods to assess lower airway inflammation and to distinguish clinically important phenotypes of airway disease. He demonstrated that the use of these measures allows effective treatment stratification, and results in improved patient outcomes. His work has influenced guidelines and has led to a NICE recommendation supporting inflammatory monitoring in the management of asthma. |He chairs the BTS/SIGN asthma diagnosis committee, producing guidelines in 2008 and 2011, is one of two Medical Advisors of Asthma UK and until recently was editor of Thorax.
