Ian Hickson is Professor of Molecular Oncology at the University of Oxford and Deputy Director of Cancer Research UK. He is one of the UK’s leading biomedical research workers in the field of genome stability and has made significant contributions to our knowledge of how defects in this process impact on cancer biology. He has established an international reputation for his studies on cancer predisposition syndromes of man and is recognised as the world leader in the analysis of Bloom’s syndrome (BS). His work is at the forefront of translational medicine both in advancing our understanding of basic biology from examples of human disease, and in the development of new approaches to cancer therapy.
